Press release - Twine Machinery

12/15/08
Townsville heavy machinery service and repair workshop, Twine Machinery, has taken delivery a state-of-the-art chassis dynamometer. Produced by Australia's largest dynamometer manufacturer, Dyno Dynamics, the Quadra4 truck and bus dynamometer, one of only 5 in the country at present, enables single and tandem drive heavy vehicles to be tested under load in the workshop.

Company founder and Managing Director, John Twine, says, "We did a lot of soul searching before taking the plunge and investing in such an expensive piece of equipment, but at the end of the day, if you want to provide the best possible service, you have to have the best equipment available. This is the third dynamometer we've commissioned Dyno Dynamics to supply - the training and after sales back up has been outstanding every time and we've been up and running on the equipment very quickly. As a case in point, before we'd even finished commissioning the machine we solved a problem that had been plaguing one operator for four months in only one hour! The near new prime mover, powered by a twin turbo Cat C15, was purchased to tow 3 road-train trailers (120,000 KG). It had spent most of its time at the dealers' since delivery because it would lose all power on the road immediately upon reaching 1,500 RPM. We were able to simulate the load of the trailers with the truck on the dyno and the CAT diagnostic computer connected. At the exact point that the dyno showed the power drop (accompanied by an immediate ‘lean out' in fuel delivery), the computer reported low oil pressure to the number 4 inlet valve actuator. It turned out that an oil gallery plug was missing - and oil was leaking from the gallery port. A new plug was installed in the oil gallery and the problem was immediately resolved. The on-board computer was shutting off the fuel to protect the engine against damage from the oil pressure drop. Both the owner and the dealer were ecstatic at having the problem diagnosed and fixed so quickly. North Queensland has had a desperate need for a heavy vehicle chassis dyno for years, the nearest being situated in Brisbane. I have no doubt that this state-of-the-art facility will fill that void and will benefit all truck operators, dealers and repairers throughout the region by greatly reducing diagnostic times and quickly verifying power, fuel delivery and speed"

In addition to road load simulation, the dynamometer is accredited by the relevant regulatory bodies to conduct the federal government approved DT80 fuel test (compliant vehicles qualify for the fuel rebate scheme). At present, the test can only normally be conducted in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide - but sufficient demand in North Queensland will ensure that Twine Machinery purchases the remainder of the (emissions) equipment necessary to conduct the full test.

Twine machinery has been servicing Townsville and the greater North Queensland market since 1979. As well as workshop based engine rebuilding, service and general repairs - mobile field service is available for onsite service, repairs and maintenance.   Twine Machinery can be contacted on 07 4774 6477 or via http://www.twinemachinery.com.au/
